Southern Electric Premier League Division 1.

St Cross Symondians (163 all out) beat Bashley Rydal (131 all out).

St Cross Symondians probably banished any ECB Southern Electric Premier League relegation worries when they avenged a thumping opening day defeat by Bashley (Rydal) with a 32-run victory at the BCG.

Victorious at Portsmouth in their previous match, St Cross celebrated a second consecutive win.

The newly-promoted Winchester club have now won three of their nine Division 1 games and should be safe.

Bashley, last season's runners-up, appear to have lost their way.

They stumbled to 131 all out, having dismissed the Winchester club for a modest 163.

Whilst Bashley will reasonably look at their off-colour batting performance as the catalyst for their defeat, they largely dug a hole for themselves during the morning session.

James Manning (2-15) and Mike West (2-13) had reason to be content with their figures, but overall Bashley bowled too much loose material - and allowed St Cross to impose themselves.

New Zealander Sam Fairley (77) produced his best knock so far and, with support from Ben Adams (21) and Graham Noble (19), had the visitors nicely placed at 111 for 2.

Dorset all-rounder Glyn Treagus (5-24) took the plaudits as St Cross collapsed to 163 all out - but the total proved enough.

Left-armer Steve Fryer, who hit a handy 15 not out late in the St Cross innings, bowled an impressive new ball spell and accounted for Treagus (18), Neil Thurgood (0) and Andy Sexton (19).

When Stu Charman bagged West of England Under-17 prospect Chris Jones (2), Bashley were in deep trouble at 44 for 4.

Dan Friedman (39) and Richard Armstrong (19) doubled the score and more to 97, but Hampshire's Jimmy Adams (3-18) and Mark Padwick (2-31) took five wickets for 22 runs before Bashley caved in at 131 all out.

Alton beat St Cross Symondians by seven wickets on Tuesday night (July 10) to clinch a place in next week's Electric Cup semi-finals. New Zealander Sam Fairley (51) and Steve Postle (35) helped St Cross post 138 for 6, but Alton raced to victory inside 15 overs, with Michael Heffernan hitting 51 not out.
