The Denplan City Ground has been a hive of activity this summer, as committee members, supporters and the new management team have all been working to get the pitch and the stadium ready for the Twinning Tournament.

The work has included building a new stand, new toilets, an additional turnstile and huge amounts of painting to make the ground look its best for the opening night of the tournament on July 20.

"The teamwork has been fantastic," said club chairman, Derek Caws, "We have had help from forty or fifty people since the end of the season. If the ground doesn't look smart enough, it won't be for want of trying!"

Many people have contributed large amounts of their free time, led by the 90-year-old club president, Len Eades, who has been associated with the club since his playing days before the Second World War.

Len has painted the entire pitch barrier himself, and has also been seen doing countless other tasks around the ground, including shovelling vast piles of topsoil on to the pitch.

Such is his level of fitness and enthusiasm, that new manager, Andy Leader, has even considered signing Len on for the first team! "Len has been brilliant," said the chairman, "He has been at the ground almost full time since the end of the season, and is a real example to us all. If we can do half as much as him at his age, we will all be delighted!"

Len will celebrate his 91st birthday the day before the Tournament starts, and will play a role in the opening ceremony on Friday, July 20.
