Hampshire League County Division 1.

Compton & CF (165 all out) beat Portchester (141 all out).

Batting first on a surprisingly dry pitch at Portchester, Compton soon learnt that the three weeks' rain hadn't left the strip untarnished.

James Watson was first to suffer when a grubber trapped him lbw while Damian French was caught off a ball that held up. Stewart McGee (23) and Andy Gorty (39) repaired the early damage with the help of some generous field placing and a wicket keeper who also found the bounce too difficult to manage.

From a promising 150 for 5 the visitors crumbled to a modest 165 all out with extras the top scorer with 45.

The home side found the going just as difficult and slumped to 21 for 3 as Adam Brown and Russ Dearlove kept things tight and made regular breakthroughs.

An excellent 60 from Jordan put Portchester back in the match and the home side were in the box seat with six overs to go and just 31 runs needed to win.

Brown returned to literally snap Jordan's middle stump in two which sparked a rapid collapse. Lee Wateridge's smart stumping and even better leg-side catch in the next over, off Ritchie Wilson, brought the last pair to the crease and Brown wrapped things up in the next over to give Compton a 24-run win.

The win keeps Compton in third place in Division 1 but well adrift of the top two unbeaten clubs - Fareham and St Cross II. They play each other next Saturday while Compton host Waterlooville.

Division 2 North West.

Compton & CF II v Andover IV.

A big partnership between Laurie Scott (108) and stand-in skipper, Rob Selwyn (73) effectively decided the outcome of this home match with Andover IV.

Scott's innings was punctuated with half a dozen sixes as he made the most of the rare appearance of the sun on his way to a typically aggressive century. Rob played the supporting innings as the pair plundered an attack that wilted in the heat.

The final total of 254 was always going to be beyond the visitors after chasing leather all afternoon. The Andover batsmen were hemmed in by the frugal Harry Pone and with Alex Spearing chalking up 3 for 8 and Matt Pickett 2 for 17, the match was soon over as a contest.

This seventh consecutive win takes C&CF to top spot in NW2 fractionally ahead of unbeaten Amesbury who are the opponents in two weeks' time after this weekend's visit to strugglers Sparsholt III.

Compton 3rds also notched up a comfortable win with Scott Weston returning to form with 40 not out to help the side to 184 before rolling over Shrewton II for less than a hundred.
