THE first book to be published by the newly-launched Winchester University Press was celebrated at a special evening on Tuesday.
More than 100 guests toasted the publication of Creatures of the Same God: Explorations in Animal Theology, by the Rev Dr Andrew Linzey, at the university's West Downs Centre in Romsey Road. The evening also included speeches and a book signing by Dr Linzey.
Christopher Mulvey, managing editor of Winchester University Press, said: "I've dreamt of a Winchester University Press for a very long time.
"It is wonderful to see the first title come fresh from the printer, ready for the world."
The university's new press was launched in June with the aim of enhancing research and spreading knowledge in the arts, education and social sciences.
The press will publish its second title, Tradition in Higher Education, by Harold Silver, this autumn.
