AN inquest into the death of a man who was hit by a train near Winchester has opened.
Winchester Coroner's Court confirmed the man's identity to the Hampshire Chronicle.
He has been named as Graham Long, 45, from New Malden in Surrey.
As reported, he died on December 30, and police were called to reports of a man being struck by a train between Shawford and Winchester.
Several trains were cancelled while British Transport Police (BTP) carried out an investigation.
A BTP spokeswoman said: “We attended with the ambulance service but sadly a person was found to be deceased at the scene.
“We will be working to identify the man and informing his next of kin and a file for the coroner will be prepared.”
The inquest will take place at Winchester Coroner's Court on June 7.
