A WINCHESTER man died in hospital after he was found injured in his home, police have confirmed.

The 39-year-old from Harestock was discovered with life-threatening injuries by a neighbour on Wednesday.

The man was rushed to Royal Hampshire County Hospital and was later transferred to Southampton General Hospital, where he died at 1am on Thursday.

Police investigated the scene in Priors Dean Road but are not treating the incident as suspicious.

In a statement issued today, Hampshire Constabulary said: "Officers investigating an incident at an address in Priors Dean Road, Harestock, at 1.30pm on Wednesday, January 20, can confirm that a 39-year-old man has died.

"The man from Harestock had been taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, with serious injuries.

"He was then transferred to Southampton General Hospital, where he sadly died at around 1am on Thursday, January 21.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said on Wednesday: “It was the gentleman’s neighbour [who] had looked in the house and seen him lying seriously injured inside, so she then called the police."

Resident Stuart Pinnock watched events unfold.

"There was four or five police cars, an ambulance, an unmarked police bike and dog sniffer," he told the Chronicle at the time. "It must have been something serious."

An air ambulance landed at nearby Henry Beaufort School but the man was taken to hospital by road.
