A MAN was hospitalised after being smashed in the face with a bottle outside a restaurant in Alresford.

Police are appealing for information after the incident on Saturday, which involved a 47-year-old victim.

The man was having a drink just after midnight outside the Shapla Indian Restaurant on West Street when he got into an argument with another man who hit him with the object.

He was left with cuts to his face and was treated at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

DC Ben Thomas said: “This kind of incident is very unusual in Alresford and we are keen to find the person responsible for this assault.

“After the attack he walked off along West Street in the direction of Winchester.

“I’d like to hear from anyone who saw the assault or the man in the area or knows anything about the incident to contact me.”

The man is believed to be in his thirties. He is about five feet 11 inches tall, of average build and was wearing a blue coat at the time of the attack.
