RESIDENTS in Owslebury have asked for the village’s phone kiosk to be kept but not for the reasons you might think.

The parish council has received a number of requests for parishioners to lose the phone but keep the traditional looking booth for village use.

BT says it was no longer financially viable to keep the phone booth as it had barely been used in the last 12 months.

Ideas from residents have ranged from installing a miniature herb garden, to a magazine or book exchange.

The parish council has agreed it will negotiate buying the kiosk from BT, provided the company replaces the kiosk door.

Anyone else with ideas about how to use the booth is urged to contact parish councillors.

Several years ago villagers campaigned to save the box, arguing mobile phone coverage is the area was patchy.
