Over 20 charities across Winchester have been given a much-needed cash boost.

Some £16,000 was shared out to 21 local charities and community groups last month, as part of Hampshire County Council's Have Your Say scheme.

Members of the public were asked to cast their votes for their favourite projects, organised by Community First Winchester - also known as WACA.

More than 2,000 votes were submitted, which covered such projects as Food up Front: Elderfield - a not-for-profit food enterprise.

Founder Seb Mayfield said: “'It's absolutely brilliant to receive this money! Not only does it mean that we will be able to involve more local people in growing food at our site but it also gives us a great deal of confidence knowing that people in Winchester have voted for us and believe in what we are doing.”

Other charities to benefit included Winchester Dementia Friendly Communities and the newly formed charity Winchester Radio, who applied for support for their bid to Ofcom for a FM community radio license.
