A COLLEGE is set to honour a war hero with a special ceremony at a museum.

Members of the Winchester College Combined Cadet Force with Buglers from The Rifles and a number of 95th re-enactors will gather in front of The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum and the statue of John Colborne, first Baron Seaton, on Wednesday June 3.

They will honour Mr Colbourne - a celebrated Old Wykehamist who famously commanded the 52nd Light Infantry, a regiment of The Royal Green Jackets and The Rifles, at the Battle of Waterloo.

Mr Colborne was born in Lyndhurst in 1778 and was a pupil at Winchester College from 1789 to 1794, taking part in the great school rebellion of 1793.

He left Winchester at the age of 16, immediately acquiring a commission in the 20th (East Devonshire) Regiment.

He died in Devon in 1863, aged 85.

His orders, decorations and medals, together with his field marshal’s baton, are on display in the Green Jackets Museum at its ‘With The Rifles to Waterloo’ exhibition.
