WINCHESTER MP Steve Brine has paid a nocturnal visit to the resurfacing of the M3 at Chandler’s Ford.

He and local councillor Jan Warwick watched Highways Agency workers laying tarmac between Junctions 12 and 13 earlier this month.

The resurfacing is being carried out following a campaign spearheaded by the staff and pupils at Shepherds Down School, in Compton, who have historically found it hard to hear each other talk above the noise of motorway traffic.

Junctions 9-14 of the M3 were initially due to be re-laid by mid-2017.

However it was announced last month that the work will be accelerated, with a new completion date of later this year.

Cllr Warwick, who represents Compton and Otterbourne Ward, said: “This has been such a long-running campaign, and to finally see it come to fruition in front of my eyes was fantastic.

“I am very grateful to the Highways Agency team for the opportunity to learn more.”
