TRINITY Winchester is among several charities to receive grants to help improve the health of the homeless.

The Durngate-based charity will receive £69,889 for an aftercare outreach service.

Also benefitting is Two Saints in Fareham, which is receiving £270,900 for the conversion of two flats to provide communal facilities and residential respite care.

It is estimated that homeless people attend A&E up to six times more than people with a home. Seventy per cent of homeless people are discharged back onto the street.

The aim of the grant is to reduce the number of homeless people going to hospital.

Rick Henderson, chief executive of Homeless Link, said: “We welcomed the news about the fund earlier this year so it’s fantastic to see details of the successful bidders and their plans for the money. The damaging cycle of homelessness, poor health and hospital admission is long-standing, but these grants will take a huge step towards tackling the issue.”
