A WINCHESTER college has recognised its sporting stars of the future at glitzy award ceremony.

Peter Symonds College held the event in the Mercers Sports Hall.

Nearly three hundred students and sports staff were present to honour the college’s best sportsmen and women.

Organiser Sam Ball said: “We greatly appreciate their efforts and the rewards are there for all to see in the trophies and awards they bring back to college. We are extremely proud of each and every one of them.”

The most prestigious prize this year went to Jess Myers of the Women’s Football England U19 squad, as she took the Mike Conlan Sporting Bursary.

Female Team Volunteer of the Year went to Hannah Bryan, Male Team Volunteer of the Year to Cameron Gaffney, and Sportsman of the Year went to Paralympic Goalball star Adam Knott.

Special awards also went to Adam Hewitt, Elliott Braund and Liam Francis for hours spent as Football Volunteers with the Hampshire FA, and Siobhan Harrison for using her swimming prowess to help the Basingstoke and Deane Rotary Club.
