AN Eastleigh College art student has made an unusual debut at The John Hansard Gallery, Southampton. Daniel Tebano, 18, exhibited on April 23, showcasing a three-hour performance entitled Things Take Time in Space.

His performance, which explored the relativity of time and experience, saw Daniel sat in front of a long mirror with a large clock positioned behind him, such that he was unable to see it in his reflection.

The inspiration comes from the human experience and of humanity’s self-awareness, and with that, our awareness of time.

Daniel said: “I was trying to show that once you’re observing time as a concept you take yourself away from the present and in reality you can’t have both.

“This was a great opportunity to give myself a platform to perform publically. I wanted some sort of audience participation so I opened up a second a chair next to me. I was really happy to have that public participation. I’ve always been intrigued with public reaction.”

Daniel has now been offered a place at the prestigious Goldsmiths, University of London, and will be starting a fine arts degree in September.
