A DOORSTEP conman has twice stolen £40 from a pensioner in Colden Common.

He pretended to be a window cleaner but only cleaned the ground floor and said he would return to finish the job. No-one returned to finish cleaning the windows.

Police are appealing for information and warning residents about the incident which happened last Saturday morning at Sunningdale Mobile Home Park.

Later that afternoon the same offender returned and told the victim that the supports on his mobile home were rusty and would need to be repaired or replaced.

He told the victim he would do it for £300 which was dropped down to £60 and finally to £40.  The victim handed over the £40 believing the offender had the supports in his vehicle.

Having taken the money the offender disappeared, driving off in his vehicle.

The man police want to speak to is described is white, between 35-45 years old, with short dark hair, clean shaven and wearing a black suit, white shirt with a black tie and knee length brown boots.

PC Jonathan Duggan said: “I would like to warn residents, especially elderly and vulnerable members of the community, against the dangers of people cold calling.  I must stress that under no circumstances should money or bank details be handed over to cold callers.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Duggan at North Walls police station on 101, or call the Crimestoppers charity, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
