EDINBURGH Comedy Award nominee Elf Lyons is performing the world premiere Medusa at Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST City Studio).

This new production created by NST Laboratory Creative Associates at NST City Studio opens tonight and runs until Saturday.

Elf has proven herself to be one of the fastest rising starts of comedy. Since 2013 she has established herself on the London and UK comedy circuit, as well as having performed at leading arts festivals around the world including Luxembourg's Humour de la Paix Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Berlin Fringe and Latitude. In 2017 her solo show SWAN at the Edinburgh Fringe was nominated for the Best Show Award and the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality. In 2018 it was in the final shortlist for Fringe World's Best Comedy Show award.

Medusa, a beautiful young girl, spurns the sexual advances of a god. Furious at being refused, she is transformed into a hideous monster. Mixing horror and humour, Medusa reimagines the myth of the woman with snakes for hair and a gaze that turns men to stone.

Ian Nicholson, Director of Medusa has said “It's a beautifully unpredictable take on Medusa - someone completely side-lined by the traditional narratives. Making something contemporary from the classic has been great fun and working with this team has been hugely inspiring.”

Elf Lyons has said: “It's Riot girl meets Greek myth! It's exactly as you would imagine - a highly sexed, coked up rock god sitting in a cave at the end of the Earth. Expect gossip on Medea, Helen of Troy and why Athena is a total (redacted)! Perse-yes!”
