TWO weeks of sparkling entertainment at the Theatre Royal, Winchester, features drama, film, song, dance and a children's show, all with a light-hearted note.

The "Summer Melt" programme begins with the theatre's own production of the Alan Bennett monologues, Talking Heads, running from July 17 to 21.

Directed by James Barry, it brings Bennett's intimate, touching, funny vignettes to the stage against the perfect setting of the Theatre Royal's small auditorium.

On July 14, Subitango! combines the breathtaking athleticism and elegance of tango with the live music and passionate rhythms of Tango Siempre.

"Sing-a-Long-a-Joseph", on July 22, will have you bursting into song to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, with on-screen lyrics. Donny Osmond takes the lead role in this screen version: fancy dress is optional.

Celebrating their 25th anniversary, the Black Umfolosi 5, on July 25, offer the sweet sounds of a capella with marvellous harmonies and gospel singing, while performing the energetic gumboot dancing of South Africa.

Young children will relish the story of The Rainbow Fish, on July 26, a deep sea adventure portrayed with song, live music and puppetry. It's ideal for foundation and KS1 children.

The ultimate dedication to Marc Bolan, T-Rextasy, celebrates the 30th anniversary of his death with a very special show, Reborn and Bopping, on July 27.

"Summer Melt" concludes on July 28 with comedian and original grumpy old man, Arthur Smith, entertaining with stories and anecdotes.
