THE story of the Luftwaffe will come alive in an illustrated talk at the Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop this January.
Broadcaster, journalist and historian, Paul Beaver, will take to the stage at the museum to tell the story of the ‘Luftwaffe’s Last Big Day’, from 7pm on Wednesday January 8.
“The Luftwaffe remains a subject of fascination for young and old,” said Paul.
“It has always intrigued me why it didn’t succeed when it had so many advantages. Hitler’s mighty Luftwaffe was a shadow of its former self by the end of 1944.
“The campaign on three fronts had sapped it of skilled pilots; the bombing campaign had reduced the fuel available; the factories could not produce enough aero engines.
“Despite the advent of the jet fighter and other developments, the Luftwaffe was doomed.”
Hermann Göring planned one last throw of the dice which Paul Beaver will recount as he traces the German air force from 1933 to 1945.
A curry supper is also available from the Apache Cafe at 6pm. Advance booking only.
