The recent coffee and cake morning held by Pearsons at their Southgate Street office in Winchester has raised a worthwhile contribution to the funds being raised for essential repairs to the City Mill to prevent its closure.
The City Mill, owned and maintained by the National Trust, dates back over a thousand years and is the oldest working watermill in Britain. The damage done by flooding in recent years means that £150,000 needs to be raised by June in order to prevent this much loved building from being closed.
The event was a tremendous success with more than 100 attendees to the recently refurbished office where everyone enjoyed the selection of donated cakes and bread made from the flour processed by the City Mill, washed down with copious amounts of tea and coffee.
The event raised £1,736 in donations for this worthy cause.
Simon Pinkney, Director with Pearsons, said: “We were really grateful for all who attended and for the fantastic donations made by local people who value the contribution historical buildings such as this make to the community.
“These donations, combined with our own contribution, have made a worthwhile addition to the funds raised so far.”
The Mill will be holding further events over the coming months, details of which can be found on their website www.nationaltrust.org.uk/winchester-city-mill
