A DEVELOPER has officially broken ground on a new development of 120 homes in Wickham.

Bewley Homes' Bishop’s Gardens comprises two, three and four-bedroom homes within walking distance of the town centre.

Bishop Garden’s is the name for the new development as the 14th century Bishop of Winchester was born in Wickham. William of Wykeham, which was also spelled Wickham, was the founder of Winchester College and New College, Oxford – but he also had a background in construction.

Before becoming a bishop, he learned about building and was also the clerk of works when much of Windsor Castle was built. His career included working in administration of the royal finances during the reign of Edward III and he was also appointed Lord Privy Seal.

Elaine Stratford, sales and marketing director at Bewley Homes, said: “Bishop’s Gardens is a great location for those wanting the many benefits of a modern, energy efficient home set in the stunning Hampshire countryside yet walkable to the centre of the historic market village of Wickham.”
