APPRENTICES are a vital part of business these days.

As well as being an opportunity for young people to learn skills on the job, they can become an integral part of any business.

This is why the Inspire Business Awards honours those apprentices who showcase passion and determination in their role.

At last year’s awards Hatch Warren resident Calan Kenward picked up the gong as a result of the work he has been doing for Telford Road-based LG Motion.

When asked how it felt to be honour at last year’s awards, the 23-year-old said: “Shocked, excited and nervous.

“The day after I felt very proud and pleased that my efforts had been recognised.”

Calan was nominated for the award by his boss Gary Livingstone, who recognised the efforts put in by his apprentice.

Mr Livingstone added: “The company is delighted that the efforts and commitment of both company and apprentice to develop and progress have been noticed.

“Calan has gone on to reinforce his win by winning the College Mechanical Engineering Project of the Year award.”

When asked what advice he would give to anyone thinking of nominating their apprentice Mr Livingstone added: “The act of entering shows you value your employees and the efforts everyone make, everyone likes and deserves to be appreciated.”

Nominations for this year’s Inspire Business Awards are open until September 6. To enter and for more information, visit inspirebusinessawards.co.uk.
