Oliver Gray

Oliver Gray is very happy to live in Twyford, near Winchester. At university his “parallel career” in rock journalism began, reviewing and interviewing the likes of Pink Floyd, Sandy Denny, Joe Cocker and Marc Bolan.

Gray relocated to Winchester, England, in 1976. Here, in tandem with his job teaching French and German at Henry Beaufort School in Harestock, he continued with music journalism.

His Hampshire Chronicle Rock Column lasted for over twenty years and he has also written for NME, Record Mirror, Musicians Only, Record Collector and innumerable other music magazines. He continues to write live reviews of new bands, even though he is theoretically far too old to do so.

He has a background in languages and has written several highly regarding textbooks. He is also a prolific travel writer and has produced several music books, most recently the history of Southampton’s Joiners Arms venue.

He has formed SXSC (South By South Central), a music promotions company, to discover and promote new and exciting artists from USA and Canada.

He is married to Birgit and they have two daughters, Annabel and Lucy. He is convinced there can be no better place in the world to live than Twyford.
