M3 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 13-14) AND M27 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 4) NEAR SOUTHAMPTON TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the M3 and M27 Motorways in the County of Hampshire, and the Unitary Authority of the City of Southampton, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be, in alternate phases, to:-
1. authorise the phased overnight closure of -
(a) both lengths of carriageway of the M3 between Junction 13 (A335) and Junction 4 (M27 Junction 4);
(b) all slip and link roads at M3 Junction 14 (M27 Junction 4); and
(c) the slip road leading to the coast-bound link road (connecting the M3 to the westbound carriageway of the M27) at Junction 13 (A335).
2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on -
(a) the link road connecting to the London-bound carriageway of the M3 from the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 14 (M27 Junction 4); and
(b) The link road connecting the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 to the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 14 (M27 Junction 4).
3. authorise the 24-hour closure of the hard shoulder adjacent to the link roads described in 2. above.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake lighting works, bridge works, carriageway works, drainage works, highway maintenance works and all associated works.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 4 months starting on or after Monday 14th May 2018. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).
The Order would come into force on 12th May 2018 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted via other junctions of the M27 or by using the A27, A335, Bournemouth Road, Leigh Road and Winchester Road. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
