Red rag to a bull

SIR — It was very interesting to see the carefully chosen spot on Bushfield Camp that the Church Commissioners chose for their photograph.

A red rag to a bull, as they themselves, despite complaints, have long been responsible for not clearing up the very unpleasant rubbish left over the years by travellers when squatting at the camp.

That said, the area could still be restored to beautiful downland again, with lovely views, many wild flowers and wild life.

“Something needs to be done”, say the commissioners.

Yes. Stop this idea of further encroachment on our precious countryside and ensure this as an area of peace and tranquillity we so badly need in today’s world.
