SIR — I was delighted to read (Chronicle letters, June 6) that Cllr Jackie Porter is lobbying to get the disabled parking spaces restored in the High Street.
In making its decision to reduce the time that this facility is available, the council has failed to recognise that there are degrees of disability. Many blue badge holders can walk from alternative disabled spaces but some can’t and, by this measure, we are limiting freedom of access for our frailest citizens.
A small measure that will make little or no difference to the rest of us will make the world of difference to them.
So, I am making an urgent appeal to our councillors to restore these spaces as soon as possible.
Ann Scott, Great Minster Street, Winchester.
