Skiing antic should be nipped in bud

SIR - Stalwarts of the Letters pages would ordinarily have a field-day if Hedge End Town Council erected signs in the local cemetery, prohibiting skiing.

Bureaucracy gone mad. Waste of council tax. I can see the letters now.

My initial reaction on stumbling across the picture in the Chronicle (April 10) was that I would rather it didn't happen, but skiing isn't prohibited and I could see that no harm was being done.

It was one of those rare newsworthy photo opportunities of people having fun, yes with a hint of controversy as well, that just had to be caught on camera.

By capturing the scene, it is now identified as a rare problem.

Hopefully something simple can be done to stop the problem recurring the next time it snows.

Ray Turner, Hedge End.
