WELL here I am sitting on the sofa watching the highlights of the London Marathon and although I can hardly believe I am thinking this, it’s making me almost (I said almost!) want to do it all again.

What a phenomenal event it is – simply the best marathon in the world and having just completed Paris two weeks ago and with New York also under my belt, I think I am qualified to comment.

London’s secret is not actually a secret at all – it is quite simply the crowds that make it a cut above the rest.

Without doubt they are phenomenal. I was a tad naughty as I ran against my doctor’s advice and I did struggle a bit, but the encouragement I got from the crowds, the marshals and the bands kept me going when I didn’t think I could run another step.

Frankly, I am happy with my two marathons in two weeks and if I came in 20 minutes slower on Sunday than I did in Paris I am still chuffed. Hard to believe when I was 19 my husband and I saw the second marathon go past our student digs in Wapping and I watched incredulously before announcing to all and sundry that I would never do anything so mad!

The two highlights for me were still the same as the last time I ran it - going across Tower Bridge and coming around to the finish with Buckingham Paris behind you. The roar from the crowds is enough to convince you that you are a winner and the feeling as you cross the finish line is absolutely indescribable!

If watching the marathon highlights has got you thinking, then I’d say go for it. As the saying goes – Impossible is Nothing. I’ll let my finisher’s tee-shirt have the last word, however… Londone!!
