Posted on 12:14pm Monday 30th August 2010

Cricket, arguably sports most gentlemanly and lovable game, this weekend has been attacked by the menaces of undercover betting cons.

Needless purchases and lizards

Posted on 11:09am Friday 27th August 2010

IT was 33 summers ago that The Minstrel, underneath Mr. Piggott won the Derby, that Elvis left the building and that I arrived in the world to much celebration and ward-wide plaudits, except from my darling mother who complained to the doctor that ‘he cannot be mine, he is far too ugly’.

Oh good old Sunday League...

Posted on 1:18pm Tuesday 24th August 2010

On Sunday, I took to the field for the first time in over two years to play in a so entitled ‘friendly’ footballing fixture. In spite of the topsy-turvy weather conditions, the match was on cue to meet its 2 o’clock kick off time.

Back into the fold...

Posted on 11:28am Wednesday 18th August 2010

For those with refined literary tastes and a disposition towards the witty, insightful and well crafted, my last two weeks of being incommunicado will have been a welcome reprieve. Unfortunately for you, I, having just had two weeks rest and relaxation, am now back in the saddle, with a song in my heart, a pen in my hand and a grim determination to mix my metaphors.

Jeff Stelling, Carlo Ancelotti and a damn good week!

Posted on 2:59pm Friday 13th August 2010

Following a week’s work experience at Sky Sports News, it’s given me that little bit of extra motivation I needed as I wait in earnest to get the ball rolling on my final year at University.

Two busy, busy weeks ahead is just about the perfect tonic for summer

Posted on 4:17pm Friday 23rd July 2010

Busy is a word of which you can describe my next two weeks. The ancient old adage, you wait for ages and then everything comes around at once has hit me.

These are hard times but it is persistence that holds the key

Posted on 5:07pm Wednesday 21st July 2010

It’s an easy life for most students. I’m one of many thousands of Higher Education footnotes in the UK whom have around six months vacation time a year to do as they please with the ludicrously short University semesters meaning only a paltry proportion of your degree is spent studying at University.

Enormous confidence in General Petraeus

Posted on 10:50am Saturday 17th July 2010

When away from home, there are certain triggers that induce the longing to be in England in these summer months, and over the last few weeks these have been manifold; catching the sun-soaked snippets of Wimbledon, not losing money backing French raiders at Ascot, being sent photographs by friends at Henley CC.

Romeo and Juliet, Helicopters and Caravan accidents, just your average Cornish Holiday!

Posted on 11:08pm Wednesday 14th July 2010

I’ve recently enjoyed a week’s break in reasonably sunny Cornwall with my family. As usual, the coastlines were picture perfect, the waves crushing against sedimentary rocks and the beaches occupied by a fair few locals and holiday makers. What I didn’t expect to find however, were two genuine news stories to land right at my feet as I train my student journalist eye.

Shopwatch scheme reaps rewards

Posted on 9:42am Wednesday 14th July 2010

As you may know, many of Winchester’s businesses are linked to the CCTV control room and local police officers by radio. More often than not, the radio is used to call in police support or to track suspect individuals using the city’s network of cameras.

"It is very easy to pass judgement from trendy Hoxton..."

Posted on 9:32am Monday 12th July 2010

A wonderful conversational reprieve arrived this week in the form of a flying visit from my Royal Dragoon Guards (RDG) brethren, Capt ‘Spike’ Lee.
