The Olympic Stadium could host sporting events this summer
London's Olympic Stadium could host major sporting events this summer, the chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation has confirmed.
Dennis Hone, head of the LLDC, hinted athletics could return to the venue before it is reconfigured as a football stadium. Reports have suggested the IAAF London Diamond League meeting, scheduled for July 27, could move from its regular home at Crystal Palace to the London 2012 venue.
Music events have been scheduled and Hone told BBC Radio 5 Live: "We are talking about bringing in sporting events this summer as well, we're just not in a position to make announcements on them just yet."
Asked to provide a clue, he said: "If you look at the configuration of the stadium, it's all there for track and field, isn't it?"
Hone refused to give away further details, saying: "I can't give you them yet but hope to do so very shortly.
"We've been looking at the stadium and how we'd bring it back into use. We're in the middle of discussions with West Ham United about how they can take occupation of the stadium and how the stadium would need to be reconfigured on a football basis.
"In the meantime we have this window of opportunity in summer 2013 to bring it back into use and that's exactly what we want to do."
