A police station in Cumbria was evacuated after a member of the public handed in a stick of dynamite
A police station has been evacuated after a member of the public handed in a stick of dynamite.
The person walked into Durranhill Police Station in Carlisle, Cumbria, with what officers suspected to be a stick of the explosive.
The building was cleared as a precaution and roads around the station closed while the situation was assessed, police said.
The Army bomb disposal team have been called and are on the way.
A spokeswoman for Cumbria Police said: "The item has been made secure by police and officers are awaiting the arrival of the explosive disposal team from Catterick.
"There is no immediate risk to the public."
No further information was available from the force.
