A police officer charged with misconduct in a public office is due to enter a plea today.

Intelligence officer Detective Constable Simon Abell is charged with four counts and is expected to enter a plea to the charges at Nottingham Crown Court this afternoon.

Abell, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, is alleged to have sent sexually-explicit text messages and carried out sexually-inappropriate behaviour against a woman between November 4 2011 and August 2 2012, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The force has confirmed the officer, who was based at Sutton-in-Ashfield, has been suspended from duty.
