A man died after being hit by a sign or board which fell from a building, police have said.

The man died following the incident in Camden, north London.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, was taken to a central London hospital for treatment. He died there a short while later.

"At this early stage it appears the man received his injuries after being struck by a sign or board which has fallen from a building."

Inquiries into the incident on Camden Road are continuing.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called just before 4.55pm to reports of a man injured by a shop sign.

"We had an ambulance crew quite close by. They treated the man at the scene for a head injury. He was in cardiac arrest which means his heart had stopped.

"Every effort was made to resuscitate him at the scene and on the way to University College Hospital."
