Sofia Vergara insists it is her brains as well as her beauty that have helped her become a success.

The Modern Family star - who has been named the third most beautiful woman in the world - admitted to Glamour magazine her looks have helped her get ahead, but she said she is equally confident of her business knowledge.

Sofia, 40, said: "I don't feel the need to apologise for my looks - I always take advantage of them and the doors they've opened for me. Likewise, I never felt I had to prove my intelligence or how business minded I am."

Sofia has been in the entertainment world for 23 years, but it wasn't until her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Modern Family that she was propelled into the spotlight. The part saw her earn Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.

Sofia said she always knew she was funny "because at school I was a bit of a class clown."

The actress, who has launched a clothing range and been named by Forbes magazine as the highest earning woman in US television, is engaged to businessmen Nick Loeb.

She said "I love being in love, and I'm very happy right now, it's perfect."
