Anne Hathaway is apparently attached to star in romantic comedy The Low Self-Esteem Of Lizzie Gillespie.

The Dark Knight Rises star is rumoured to take the lead as a woman with low self-confidence, but things take a turn for the better when "the hottest guy ever" begins to pursue her, said The Hollywood Reporter.

It looks like the 29-year-old is going down a more indie route, following her roles as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman instalment and Fantine in Tom Hooper's upcoming Les Miserables.

The Mindy Project's Mindy Kaling, who has written the script with Brent Forrester and will executive producer with him, is also expected to appear in The Low Self-Esteem Of Lizzie Gillespie in a supporting role.

John Malkovich will also help produce through his Mr Mudd company.

The rom-com is still in development and a director is being sought after.

Anne, who married actor Adam Shulman on September 29, is rumoured to voice a character in Rio 2 and is tipped to star in Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse adaptation opposite Chris Hemsworth.
