Fun Lovin' Criminals star Huey Morgan has said he does not regret criticising fellow BBC DJs Fearne Cotton and Chris Evans after he missed out on a radio gong.

The 6 Music presenter, 44, also hit out at Lauren Laverne, who DJs on the same station, when he failed to win at the ceremony.

US star Huey, who has hosted shows for Radio 2, missed out on the title of music radio personality of the year to Chris, while Lauren was runner-up. Radio 1's Fearne picked up the gong for best music programme at the Sony Awards in May.

Huey wrote in a series of messages on Twitter: "They ain't gonna let some dude from NYC win this s***. Fern, Lauren, Chris. Yeah right, that's cool? Suckers, they come a dime a dozen."

In a series of messages in the cold light of day, he added: "I am sorry for my comments last night. If I offended anyone, I apologise. I will tweet no more."

But Huey has now told the Radio Times magazine: "I don't really have a problem with what I said about Fearne. She doesn't have a good music programme.

"I took a little heavy on Lauren just because... and Chris Evans, man... He's...he's... He's Chris Evans! You love him. Or you hate him.

"I love him! This is the thing, I do love the guy. But every time I turn on the f***ing television it's his voice on a Morrisons ad, or he's doing a TV spot. I'm like, dude, you're a triple billionaire - why don't you just go buy an island and be happy? And stop grinding it out, the same s***."

A spokesman for Morgan later insisted he regretted the comments.

A statement issued on his behalf said: "As stated by Huey and his management at the time of the incident earlier this year, he regretted the comments made over Twitter and fully respects his BBC colleagues."
