Michael Keaton has joined RoboCop as the film's villain.

The Batman star will play Raymond Sellars, the CEO of Omnicorp, the corporation that builds RoboCop - a role which Hugh Laurie and Clive Owen were previously attached to.

Director Jose Padilha told Deadline: "Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place.

"It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We've got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209's and I can't wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets."

Joel Kinnaman is set to star in the title role in the reboot of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 cult classic.

Samuel L Jackson, Gary Oldman and Abbie Cornish are also in the futuristic thriller, which is scheduled to start filming in September in time for release in August 2013.
