Lamb: US will love Gavin And Stacey

Larry Lamb is confident a US version of Gavin And Stacey will be a hit.

The EastEnders star plays Gavin's dad in the hit BBC Three comedy, written by and starring James Corden and Ruth Jones, which is rumoured to be being rewritten for America.

The actor said he's "quite sure" it would do well, adding:" Oh yeah, it's a love story - that's all it is, at the end of the day it's a love story."

He continued: "It wasn't written as a comedy, it was written as a comedic drama about two young people who fall in love and all the ramifications of that.

"So yeah I'm quite sure it will, I don't see any great problem with that at all."

But Larry urged US writers to think about where in America they set the show, so that the funny scenes showing Gavin and Stacey adjusting to life in each other's home towns in Essex and Wales aren't lost.

He said: "They've got to make sure they set it right - I mean what is it that makes the audience laugh at Billericay and what is that makes them laugh about Wales. It's that clash of two different, essentially similar cultures, and I'm sure they can match that up in America, no problem at all."
