Sean Bean has admitted his bad reading skills have often held him back from landing roles.

The actor stars in new TV series Legends, where he plays an FBI cop questioning his own identity when a stranger suggests he isn't who he thinks, but said that he hadn't always landed the roles he wanted because he found the scripts so difficult to get through in auditions.

Asked by Entertainment Weekly what his worst audition had been, Sean said: "Most of them, really. I've been into lots of auditions, and I'm sure I've lost a lot of jobs through that, because I'm pretty dreadful at reading.

"Either one thing or the other, you either know it or you don't, and I can't look at the camera and keep talking [as I'm reading pages of dialogue].

"I used to walk out and I just knew I hadn't got the job, and I hadn't got the job."

Legends airs on TNT in the US.
