Ellen Page has said she was nervous about coming out as gay.
The 27-year-old Juno actress declared her sexuality in February, at a conference in Las Vegas for counsellors who work with lesbian, gay and bisexual teenagers.
She told Flare magazine: "I was very nervous. I was very nervous. I was emotional, deeply, deeply emotional...
"You think you're in a place where you're all 'I'm thrilled to be gay, I have no issues about being gay any more, I don't feel shame about being gay', but you actually do," she said.
"You're just not fully aware of it. I think I still felt scared about people knowing."
But the X-Men: Days Of Future Past star said: "The more time went by, the more something just happened," she said, adding that she wanted "to love someone freely and walk down the street and hold my girlfriend's hand".
"I expected so much more hate. It was just remarkably positive, which is beautiful, because it's indicative of the change that's happening," the Canadian actress said.
