Ed Sheeran has performed at two special concerts for hundreds of UK troops in Afghanistan.

The singer-songwriter met up with a wide-range of personnel during the morale-boosting weekend trip to Camp Bastion, including those from the Force Protection Wing, the Manoeuvre Battle Group, 3 Royal Horse Artillery, the Theatre Engineering Group and the Joint Aviation Group.

Captain Lori Sharp said she was "really nervous" when she picked up her guitar to play the Scottish folk song Caledonia for the star. She was then joined by a quartet of Fijian soldiers for a traditional number from their homeland before Sheeran performed two of his own songs.

She said: "Some of the Fijians and I spent some time rehearsing in the morning and then played a few songs when he visited our gun position.

"It isn't something you think you wold get the opportunity to do here in Afghanistan - play and sing in front of a famous musician - but it was good fun and I enjoyed the experience. Ed then played a few songs for us. It felt a bit surreal but he was really good."

Sheeran got the chance to look around a Husky protected support vehicle and a Warrior infantry fighting vehicle and he also fired a light gun on a training exercise.

He also spent time with the Theatre Engineering Group and Joint Aviation Group where he met air crew and boarded Apache and Chinook helicopters.

Comedian Craig Campbell was also on the trip, organised by the British Forces Foundation charity.
