Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry has been honoured as the Oldie Of The Year at an annual awards bash.

The cookery writer and judge from the hit BBC series rose to the top at The Oldie magazine's celebration lunch recognising the contribution of mature familiar faces.

Actress Anne Reid - one of the stars of BBC One's Last Tango In Halifax - was awarded the Pin-up Of The Year prize at the Oldie Of The Year bash.

Broadcaster Nicholas Parsons - who is still hosting his Radio 4 series Just A Minute after 46 years at the age of 90 - collected the Dorian Gray Award. Organisers and judges often tailor the awards to those they feel are worthy of recognition.

Former prime minister Sir John Major was rewarded with the Campaigner Of The Year prize, while Joan Woolard - a Barclays investor who told bank executives 'I don't know how you sleep at night' - was named Heckler Of The Year.

Judges for the awards, staged at Simpsons-In-The-Strand in central London and hosted by Sir Terry Wogan, included broadcasters Jon Snow and Libby Purves as well as the magazine's founder Richard Ingrams.
