Johansson: I want to be scared
Scarlett Johansson has revealed she enjoys treading into uncharted territory when it comes to her film career.
The 29-year-old - who has starred in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Don Jon, played a computer operating system in Spike Jonze's Her and an alien in Jonathan Glazer's Under The Skin - admitted she enjoys being challenged when she picks her roles.
"I'm looking to be a little terrified going into things. If I know I can do something, even if it's well written, to me there's no appeal," she told Empire.
"It would be a waste of time. There'd be nothing to discover. [Her] was a very emotional experience, because the character is like a child, but growing at this rapid acceleration. She exists in this intangible dimension."
Scarlett, who will reprise her Black Widow role in the Captain America and Avengers sequels, admitted that is one of the reasons why she has only done one romantic comedy, He's Just Not That Into You.
"I just never read good ones. I'm waiting for one to reach me that's not heavily cliched," she explained.
"There are ones I love: As Good As It Gets is really fresh because the protagonist starts off awful and you warm to him as Helen Hunt does. But those are so few and far between."
