Adam Levine has said Christina Aguilera's body critics need to "grow up".

Christina's curves have been the subject of recent headlines but Adam, her fellow coach on the US version of The Voice, said the scrutiny of her weight was unfair.

He told E! News: "The one thing about the culture right now, celebrity culture particularly, is people feel like they can just say nasty things about other people, whether it's Christina or whether it's me.

"She gets a lot and it p***es me off. Of course I have her back and of course I defend her."

He added: "People shouldn't say those kinds of things... It's like, come on guys, grow up."

The Maroon 5 frontman also insisted rumours of a spat between him and the Genie In A Bottle singer were untrue.

"The fights that everyone thought we were having were fictional," he revealed. "We never hated each other."
