Skipper Dan out with fractured arm

DAN Welch will be a notable absentee when Chickerell United visit Parley Sports tomorrow for a rearranged Dorset Premier League Cup first round tie (1.30pm).

The Chickerell United skipper fractured his arm on Boxing Day and therefore missed Monday’s routine victory over Bridport Reserves.

Welch could be sidelined for up to a month and has been joined on the treatment table by Sam Clarke, who limped off with a groin strain at St Mary’s Field.

Richard Marshallsay is also doubtful although boss Brendon King is optimistic that he and Clarke will feature at Chapel Gate, which is staging the match because of Parley’s waterlogged pitch.

Given that the Chickens have won six straight league games, King admitted tomorrow’s fixture is an unnecessary distraction – but insisted that his troops will adopt the “right attitude”.

He told the Echo: “The league is our priority but we are on a good run and want to keep it going no matter what competition it is.

“Winning becomes a habit and it’s important that we win this game and maintain the momentum that we’ve gained from putting together an impressive set of results.

“We will go to Parley with the right attitude. They are a good young side who like to get the ball down and play, so we will have to be on our guard.”

He added: “The pitches at Chapel Gate are good so if the weather is okay then the game should go ahead. It has already been postponed once so the last thing we want is another one.”
