Lambert hailed by former Saint

FORMER Saints striker Gordon Watson has hailed Rickie Lambert as “the kingpin” of Alan Pardew’s play-off hopefuls.

Watson admits that the £1m striker has improved enormously from the player he was at Bristol Rovers last season – when he belted 29 League One goals.

In particular, the player’s fitness – which has kept him in the lower divisions for his whole professional career – has dramatically got better.

In his role as a scout for Nigel Pearson’s Leicester, Watson was a regular watcher of Lambert during 2008/09.

“I said before the season had even started that Saints should be looking to sign Rickie Lambert,” said Watson, himself a £1m Saints forward back in the mid 1990s.

Why are we interested in what a Leicester City scout is saying about our players??? I am sure the Leicester Herald is running a piece on Terry Coopers holiday hideaway in Tenerife!!!!!!!!!!!! Is he still employed as our European Scout??? What a job that was, however he did unearth some gems!!

Gordon Watson was a panic buy by Alan Ball- we only bought him because Rod Wallace turned down a return move. We even had to sell Jeff Kenna to buy him- a waste as Watson was poor.

I hope Saints hold onto Rickie and build a team around him..the guy is class even if he hasn`t been at his best in recent games. When you compare him to the likes of Saga, Wright-Phillips,Mcgo
ldrick and Euell, then i think it`s fair to say most of us wouldnt swap him for these "championship forwards".Stay fit Rickie and you`ll become and legend with us.

Difference is that Rickie can actually score goals, Watson can't remember a single goal ? A snip at 1M he will take us up to the next level. We could be playing pompey next season !!

I hate to be pessimistic, but chances are we wont be playing Portsmouth next year, in fact, i dont think anyone will be playing them next year!

Hi Rachel, your tip about Chris Lines could well come true. HTV west recently said he could be moving in the window and a Rovers fan I know has also told me he'll be joining us (can't say I know much about him though). Happy new year to all.

Now he's getting them wound up,
All we know is Pompey's gonna die,
Gonna die, Gonna die!!!!
