SAINTS have moved up to 15th in League One after a 3-1 victory at Walsall.
David Connolly, Dean Hammond and Rickie Lambert scored the goals, with Darren Byfield replying for the Saddlers.
Alan Pardew made one change from the side that beat Wycombe 1-0 at St Mary's on Tuesday.
Connolly returned from a groin injury, to replace Papa Waigo.
Connolly's introduction means a switch back to 4-4-2, with the former West Ham man partnering Lambert in attack.
Key incidents:
• Full-time: Walsall 1, Saints 3.
• 90: Saints sub - Matt Paterson for Rickie Lambert.
• 77: Saints sub - Paul Wotton for Morgan Schneiderlin.
• 75: Antonio goes close to a fourth for Saints, but Ince saves his effort.
• 70: Saints sub - Michail Antonio for David Connolly.
• 67, GOAL 1-3: Not what Saints needed. Darren Byfield pulls one back for the Saddlers straight away.
• 65, GOAL 0-3: Connolly feeds Lambert, who makes no mistake, firing in a third for Saints, who are good value for their commanding lead.
• 46: The second half is underway.
• Half-time: Walsall 0, Saints 2.
• 45: Rickie Lambert heads straight at Clayton Ince in the Walsall goal, as Saints threaten to run riot. Steve Jones lashes out at Dan Harding, but somehow escapes any punishment at all.
• 38, GOAL 0-2: Dean Hammond makes it 2-0, turning the rebound from David Connolly's shot into the net.
• 37: Lloyd James goes close, but his shot goes just past the post.
• 33, GOAL 0-1: David Connolly latches onto a through ball, bears down on goal and buries it into the net. Saints in front.
• 19: David Connolly goes down in the area, but the referee waves away his penalty appeals.
• 15: Morgan Schneiderlin fires just wide from a tight angle.
• 11: Walsall go close as a header from Darren Byfield hits the outside of the post.

p.s someone said the other day on this forum about dropping lambo for a game !! imho i think thats stupid from what i heard about lambo ( radio and reports ) its his all round game thats improved , he is still very dangerous but now he holds the ball up given the wingers a chance to catch up and build a attack .

The feeling is wonderful that we can catch games here. If you haven;t been in here before Dan Kerins has the option for auto update every 30 secs with game commentary..
If ppl pay the sub on the player you have game highlites (usually about two days after the game.. and a treat this week the last game Whole!! We o/s also get live audio from Radio Solent with Big Dave's dulcet ramblings but I am grateful to them as local radio from BBC is the only reliable source of live L1. P2P sometimes carry cup games. The BBC Sky ITV website video media is out of territory here.
down load Sopcast and google for a p2p live stream... may get lucky.

Anyway, big up to my Dad, who is today going to his first away game since he got married - and that's over 50 years ago. He actually proposed to my Mum at The Dell, and took me to my first football game (v Coventry, 1968, ended 0-0, most boring afternoon of my life up until that point, but didn't put me off!). He's just turned 80, and the Saints resurgence has given him a new lease of life; he's going to home games again (but not evening matches as he can't see the ball in the dark - at least that's his excuse, I try to tell him they've installed floodlights since his day but he won't listen). So, not only are the Saints on the up, they have helped my Dad recover from his stroke - what a team! My team! And Dan, despite saying hello in your mail, you forgot to include Liberia in your list of countries where us ex-pat Saints are lurking:-) But your poems rock, so who cares...

Is it just me missing something or is it the first time wilkins has done the pre match preview? prehaps pards was busy sorting out jan transfers!

I went to Walsall to interview Chris Nicholl when I was Sports Editor of Southampton Univeristy Newspaper; top bloke, and should never have been sacked. Things started going pear-shaped the day he left and was replaced bya succession of short-term bosses who were either cr*p or flashes in the pan (or Branfoot, who is beneath mentioning). Probably my favourite ever Saints manager - good cup runs, lots of high scoring games, winning more than we lost, and entertaining. Anyone know where he is now?
