Lallana won't go cheap says Wotte

MARK Wotte has warned clubs interested in signing Adam Lallana that the young star will never be sold on the cheap.

Premier League newboys Wolves, who earlier in the week sealed a £1.2m deal for Andrew Surman, have been rumoured to be interested in making a move for Lallana for a fee of around £500,000.

That is way below the value of up to £5m being talked up as recently as January before the youngster's form dipped in the second half of last season.

Having already lost David McGoldrick and Surman, which Wotte acknowledged was necessary to help the club financially, the manager is no mood to let Lallana go as well.

And in the worst case scenario that he did either have to sell him or decided to cash in to generate transfer funds after a takeover, there is no way he will do it at a cut price rate.

He said: “Adam Lallana is not for sale at the moment.

“If people want to make an offer then they have to rate him in the same category as Andrew Surman and David McGoldrick otherwise there is no way we will even negotiate.”

Keep up to date with the latest on Saints in the Daily Echo.

So McCarthy
still not trying to take advantage are we?

Rate him in the same range as Drew?. There is a bit of difference between £1.2m and £5m!!. This story contradicts itself on all levels. Another re-hashed story from the DE.

Lallana's out of contract at the end of the year so it makes sense to sell him now. He played well on the TV against WBA and QPR but he was poor last season. A good player but I think he'll do better in a team that isn't struggling as we were.

A couple of classy players brought in by the new owners and the lad will thrive in a rising club on the charge. Players like stability it's coming for Saints in a way we haven't had for a very long time. Can't you feel it!

The Swiss and world group businessmen have stuck at the table through all the bs an and are about to sign.. they haven't spouted off one word. I take that as quiet professionalism.

McCarthy take advantage? Never in a million years! cough - Vokes - cough. Are Begbies Traynor part of Wolves coaching network? Might explain why their administrations take so long.

Why is Wotte being allowed to make decisions for the future of the club!
Hope against hope he wont be the new owners choice!

I think we all need a bit of reality check, Wotte is making decisions because he has stood by a club that hasn't always treated him correctly, but his innate professionalism has kept him here. I don't know about the rest of you but in his position I would probably look else where. All the talk about Kevin Keegan was just that talk, it didn't happen for whatever reason and now we need to face the situation we have- I hope whoever the new owners are find a real and meaningful job for Wotte and the Killer at the club, and then we can get on with the real business of supporting our club and not discussing ifs, buts and maybes

Maybe he needs loaning somewhere to improve his game? I'm sure he could join the Saint's new sister team, Red Bull Saltzberg to improve his confidence.

I don't think he was ever worth £6m, that was basically a bit of over hype, trying to compare him with other academy stars.

Dont let him go cheap mark, sell on clause benefits us cherries.Already been ripped off with the sale of vokes last year.Amazes me how many players go on the cheap after a club goes in to admin.sorry it doesnt amaze me,it **** right annoys me.Surman was a class act when we had him on loan.Looking at prices of other players that have been sold around the country, class wise, surman has got to be one of the better ones but bought on the cheap at 1.2 mill.Dick Turpin springs to mind.Up the cherries.

What ever our state of play is. The club have to do everything to keep players like Lallana, or we might just as well just throw the towel in all together.

I have to say that my 3 yeatr old grandson would muscle both Lallana & Surman off the ball. I thik they are average Div 1 to Championship players; I hope they prove me wrong. Premiership I don`t think so.

Lallana worth £5million, no one is that stupid are they? Drew and David Mc went for £1.2million with it rising up to £2million and Wotte says £5million he is even more stupid than i thought, Drew and David are much better than him, as he drifts in and out of games, he does influence us at times, but not enough. we might have to sell him to generate some money to spend, whats happend to the other sales then? Bonus wa it Fry.

I thought Mark Wotte had a 12 month rolling contract

If our club has no
owner,no board,no
chairman etc,who had
the right to give
Wotte a yearly rolling contract.
If Wotte's contract
on this basis is null
and void he's being
allowed to say far too much about players values etc.
Hope we can keep young Lallana for at
least this coming season, still feel with better coaches/
players/formation etc
he could be a real asset for Saints but
not with Wotte running the show.
Remember,he helped take us down and he
didn't seem to be able to inspire our team much then. We need a British manager who understands the League we're in.
Also, like some answers about just who is doling out
contracts etc at this precise time.

Because Wotte is the current manager. Every manager has to make these decisions. No on else at the club & wud u want Lallana to go cheap because no one said she worth wat Wotte sed he was?

In reply to Tiss7.
I know Wotte is the
current manager,my
point was,who made
Wotte the current
manager if our club
has no owner,board,
chairman etc.
I'd just like to know
who had the authority
to do that.

I've been reading through the various responses to articles in the Echo posted here and I have finally come to the conclusion that its a f..f..f...f...funny old game football. Innit? I mean, here we are in what is probably the worst situation the club we support has probably ever been in. Potentially a few days from ceasing to exist. Occasionally over the last couple of days there has been the odd snippet of info that actually sounds positive. You'd think that given the grimness of our current plight, folk would be happy to hear something that isn't all doom and gloom for a change. But no: even the smallest crumb of comfort has to be dissected and turned into something negative. The news of older experienced pros coming in for trials, that should be a cause for celebration, that people actually want to come and play for us. And these are just TRIALS!!! But no, the miriad of football experts posting here can only whinge and moan about how pants this player or that player was the last time they played for us or whoever. Halloooo!! We are in Div 1 now... NOT the Prem. I dont believe for a minute that Mark Wotte is given to sentimentality when it comes to recommending the signing of a player. And yes, its fair to ask how it can be that he is in a position to be taking players on trial, but why cant folk be happy that there is someone to do that. And to ensure that the last of the family silver doesn't get flogged off on the cheap. People, I am amazed at how stupid some of the responses on here are. At the moment, we barely have a football club so to the whingers and moaners, the arm-chair experts can I just say this; you're gonna have to wait a bit longer for either the death or re-birth of the club and in the meantime, just be glad that there is someone at the helm who seems to give a feck about Southampton Football Club.

Hear Hear well put, Southampton has always being the whingeing capital of the South in everything, whether it be Airport, Dibden, Transport, wind turbines, enjoying yourself e.t.c Football is no different. I still love the place being born and bred here!
