SAINTS head coach Jan Poortvliet is looking forward to the “ultimate test” when his side face Manchester United in the FA Cup third round.
The European and English champions will visit St Mary’s, after being drawn against Saints, during the first weekend of January for the game.
Poortvliet said: “I was back in Holland when I heard, and my whole family was there.
“It was a great moment and it’s what you hope for as a coach, and it will be a fantastic occasion for all the boys and for the fans."
It will also be a chance for Poortvliet to pit his wits against United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and he believes his side could pull off a massive shock.
“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “Sir Alex is the best coach in England in terms of what he has won over the years and I’m curious to see how we will fare against them.
“It will be the ultimate test. We will be going for it and if we take our chances then anything is possible.
“It’s another game in another competition and who knows what might happen.”

Jan here you go again. Talk is cheap. I will be happier than you if we beat the likes of Man U. Though if you think you can compete really with the way you have been playing football at the moment, then you are about to get a shock. Our only hope this season Jan will be Kelvin, and if he on form he has been all season and the way he has keep this crap season single handed better than it might of been then we might have an outside chance at best.

Well i think only a deluded optimist can see us getting win,for me it`s all about 30000,saints fans roaring the team on and hopefully we can compete with them and cause them some problems,i just hope we dont go and end up 2 or 3 down before half time.

Lay off derek, at least he cares about our beloved club unlike some who see fit to boycott SMS when they feel like it. Keep it up Derek, at least there are a few true supporters left in the red half of the South Coast! COYR!

You know how Jan's been talking about how we're going to absolutely wipe the floor with someone soon? Well, I reckon it's going to be against Manure. What are the odds on another 6-3?
