JAMES Atterbury and Stuart
Findlay bagged two goals apiece
as Alresford Town cruised into
the Basingstoke Senior Cup
final, 5-0 at the expense of
Hampshire Premier Overton
United on Tuesday night.
The hosts started brightly, Jamie Ross
in particular raining shots on the
Overton goal, but visiting keeper Paul
Marchant positioned himself well to
keep the scores level.
An untidy spell punctuated by freekicks
followed but the hosts broke the
deadlock on 36 minutes. Findlay was the
provider with a neat pass for Ben
Simpson to control, round a defender
and beat Marchant low to his left.

Overton's James Winfield hit the post
with a scorcher at the start of the second
half while, at the other end, Dan Wakefield
and Danny Edwards both struck
the bar within seconds of each other.
But, on 71 minutes, Alresford doubled
their lead when the ball was knocked
down for Findlay to rifle into the roof of
the net from an acute angle.
The floodgates opened in the last ten
minutes. Atterbury rose to head home
the third from a corner and made it four
on the volley when the visitors' defence
left him unmarked from another set
piece. Findlay provided the icing on the
cake with a fine diagonal lob on the run
to complete the hosts' nap hand.
Alresford will meet either Fleet Town
or Tadley Calleva in the final.
