CLEAN SWEEP: Penguins' 50 metres freestyle boys (13/14 yrs ) won all three medals.

THE Level 1 Portsmouth Northsea Easter Swimming Festival took place over the four days of the Easter weekend, and proved to be a successful competition for a number of Winchester City Penguins swimmers.

As a whole, the club took 26 awards for top 6 places and there were a good number of personal bests set by younger and older swimmers.

For those who were placed, 14 year-old Thomas Mills was on top form taking home five gold medals and two silvers in the boys 13/14 years age group. He also pocketed the £30 cash for winning the Medley skins event. His wins were in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and the 100m and 200m backstroke, and his second places were in the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.

In the same age group, Justin Craig also won a gold medal for the 50m freestyle and three silver medals in the 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Joel Frank, 13, also took home the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle event (making this event a Penguins 1,2 & 3) and came fifth in the 100m backstroke.

Nick Courtney also took fifth place in the 100m breaststroke and Tom Coward sixth place in the 200m breaststroke in 13/14 yrs age group.

Eleven year-old Oliver Heath took sixth place in the 50m freestyle final. All the boys set good personal bests.

For the girls, Sophie Jenkins led the way in the 15/over age group. She won a silver medal in the 100 butterfly, and a bronze in the 50m freestyle, and took fourth in the 100m freestyle.

In the same age group Jessica Pike came third in the 400m freestyle and sixth in the 100m butterfly, and Amy Frank came sixth in the 200m backstroke.

In addition, Georgina Elliot took 4th place in the 400m IM and Sarah Hawkings fifth place in the 50m breaststroke.
